On March 4, Slovenian jumpers competed in virtual ski jumps at the premises of the Ski Association of Slovenia. Oculus Rift, a device resembling ski goggles was tested by Peter Prevc, Jurij Tepeš and Franci Petek. If you wish to see their attempts, their delight at making excellent jumps and the best funny moments, click here.

It did not take long to discover that Oculus Rift is an excellent way to experience the large hill anywhere and at any time and to soak in the atmosphere of the valley under Ponce, even if you've never stood on skis. According to the excited jumpers, the only thing that was missing was the smell of ćevapčići beef rissoles in the arena. Every ski jumping fan should therefore try out this experience.

Prevc, two-time Olympic medal winner in Sochi 2014 and last year's winner of the last round of the season in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Planica said upon testing the 3D virtual ski jumping experience: "I am very happy that a big step forward has finally been made. I find it great that many people can try this, as this is one of the best ways to get closer to the Planica ski flying hill." Tepeš, the winner of the final Ski Jumping World Cup competition, also waited to try such an experience, and was excited about his virtual jump, because in his words "it is much more realistic than anything that already exists." Petek, the World Champion from Val di Fiemme in 1991, was most impressed by the authenticity of the sensations offered by the platform: "Very interesting experience that truly gives you the sensation of speed. It’s ideal and great fun."

You too can try out the virtual jumps on March 21 and 22 in the Citypark shopping centre in Ljubljana. Challenge Prevc, Tepeš and Petek and beat them with a combination of skill and luck, all with help of Oculus Rift.
